My family's mochituki!!

Hello, everyone!I want to tell about my family tradition,"mochituki".

"Mochituki" is making rice cakes. My family do it on December 30th every year. Many relatives gathers at my grandfther's house to mochituki.I am looking forward to it.Because I can meet relatives! When I meet their,we talk about various things.
↑This is "Kine.        ↓This is "Usu".

Mochituki is very hard work.Because Mochituki's tools are very heavy. So,Mochituki requires strong power. In Japan, rice cake is made by "Kine" and "Usu".We use their tools and, pound glutinous rice.We round, after pounding finishes.Rounding is very difficult. In Japan, small bean paste is put in rice cake.It is very popular.Have you ever eaten Japanese "Mochi".It is very delicious!!Please eat Japanese Mochi. The glutinous rice is made by my grandfather every year.Although pounding rice was made in many houses a long time ago, there are many houses using a machine now.But My family don't use machine.I think that I want to protect this my family's tradition.

Left is my father and right is my grandfather
This is my family tradition. This year's Mochituki has not been pounded yet.But I am looking forward to it!Recently,I can't go back to my hometown. So,Iwant to go back. And I have to help Mochituki.I want to take part in my family's event!!

  1. Hello Yukie! :) Thanks for sharing about your family tradition, it was very interesting to read. So thank you! I did not know about mochituki before. I have eaten mochi, and I think it is delicious. So I think it is very interesting to learn about how the mochi is made. You are lucky to be able to eat homemade mochi each year! :)
